Thank you for the shout out, Evan! You are an expander for all who have the pivot in their heart. I am just a year into my pivot (aka career transformation) and I've never been happier. Can't wait to share more at Streaming Media!

I need to find a new way to tell you how much I love your stuff.

Thanks a lot for the mention Evan. Honoured to be amongst this group of pivoters. My story is so common unfortunately that I hope it will inspire others to get out and find whatever will make them feel good about themselves again.

LOVE this, Evan! "The biggest difference now versus then: Most opportunity is inbound. It’s a return on the value I ship daily. I still write every day. I still wake up thinking about how I can add value to the community. It’s now what I do for a living." CONTACT CHIP CONLEY at MODERN ELDER ACADEMY about leading a course there. I think possibly an even better way to characterize this new environment we're living in might be not just The Creator Economy, but The Sharing Economy.

What I'm seeing is that people are willing to share their own experiences with the intention of benefiting others, without worrying about how the sharing might benefit the sharer.

This in itself is a pivot from the prevailing attitude in the entertainment business, which I would characterize as The Selfish Economy. (e.g., if I share how I got ahead, or what it would take for you to get ahead, then you will benefit, but I may not.)

That's really what the whole Gatekeeping Culture is about.

So I think I am ready to take Evan's advice, and that of his disciples, and start sharing. Be forewarned: some of it ain't pretty.

And BTW, if you check out my LinkedIn profile, you will see a whole bunch of pivots.

I never had a career plan or a career path. I just pivoted to whatever was next, whatever seemed the most interesting, whatever might present an opportunity to learn / experience something new. Some of these choices worked out, some didn't. But you got to keep on steppin'.

Because after all, to play the pivot effectively, you have to have good footwork.

Thanks, Evan. I’m a pivoter, too (sounds like a song) - went from actor to development exec to producer and now teacher or what I like to say awakener as Robert Frost said. I also have written two books that are used at universities. But the one thing I haven’t managed to achieve is doing more creative work to nurture my soul (music and writing -other than non fiction) - stuff that makes me happy and it’s mostly due to time and exhaustion from teaching (which is incredibly rewarding but a lot of work - teaching is not for wimps) and other multiple jobs in our gig society.

But your work has been a breath of fresh air. I introduce your work to my producing students and say you are a cartographer. I think they are astounded when I show them the media universe. Thanks for all you do. And I hope you’re on the mend fully.
