This week’s Media Odyssey Podcast covers a LOT of ground.
We start with 1Q earnings from Big Media: Marion Ranchet and I discuss why Big Tech AI investments are now the center of global economic gravity, and what risks that represents for all of us.
Then Marion quizzes me on my recent Kids Content Landscape Report: the existential crisis in Kids content production, YouTube’s role and responsibility in the Kids programming ecosystem, and the changing nature of our digital video babysitter.

[00:31:35] Most kids are watching age-appropriate titles in film and TV, but 88% of parents report their kids under 5 prefer YouTube.
[00:35:41] I recommend YouTube take a look at YouTube Kids and how their business model negatively affects producers’ ability to return on investment.
[00:39:10] I also recommend producers find other sources of income including: membership on YouTube, Patreon, AI, and working directly with brands.
[00:42:45] Finally, I recommend streamers resume investing in kids’ content. Disney and Netflix are losing out by not owning the major kids’ franchises that drive views on their platforms.
[00:44:04] Coming up: Exciting episodes from Stream TV in Denver and Cannes Lions—stay tuned!
