Happy Friday War & Peaceniks! Let’s talk layoffs!

I have been fired. It sucks. Unfortunately, in the worlds of Media and Tech right now, getting shit-canned is an expanding contagion.

The ecosystem has been going through a massive “right-sizing” for the past year, as 130,000 jobs have been shed across the sectors, with more to come this year. Meta is going through a new wave of cuts right now. Amazon has more on the way. Disney hasn’t even started to make its “3% workforce reduction.”

AND YET…

“For white-collar jobs, the unemployment rate for those with a bachelor’s degree or higher is just 1.9%. For people with high school degrees, it’s 3.6%.” - VOX

The echo chamber of panic, and the mounting layoffs due to poor decision making at the top of Media & Tech have made it seem like the economic sky is falling. It’s easy to feed into that panic, especially if you are or might be directly affected by it.
