Happy Monday Peaceniks! Ready for some passion‽

Before the term tipped, I predicted that the Creator Economy would become the dominant force in Media. Last December, I announced that 2025 would be The Year of The Creator. I take no credit for it becoming a reality, but now, no matter where you look, the Creator Economy is the concept on everybody’s lips.

In June, I took my Creator thesis to another level: Proposing that, in the User-Centric Era, all aspects of the Media business are now entirely governed by the rules of the Creator Economy. The Creator-sphere is no longer only for individual Creators or Influencers. Big brands and Big Media, when/if they so choose, can be the biggest Creators in the world. This year, I have offered numerous case studies to argue my case, with Channel 4, the CBC, ITV, and perhaps most completely with Bluey and BBC Studios.

Last week, along with my latest Media Universe Map, I introduced new terminology for this new model, which blends the surviving traits of Traditional Media, the blazing speed of bleeding edge Big Tech, the undeniable power of frenzied Fandom, and the core components of the Creator Economy, into a unified business model for the User Centric Era: The Affinity Economy.

Moving forward, to survive and thrive in Media, you will need to retire the antiquated measurement methods still utilized by today’s Big Media Industrial Complex and gauge your your business through the eyes, actions, and engagement of your most valuable consumers.

Today, below, I dive into details of the Affinity Economy to define the main metrics that define success in the User-Centric Era. Specifically, I will focus on the shift from Traditional Media’s vanity KPIs (Views, Subscribers, Revenue, CPMs, and Click-Through Rates) to one, key indicator of performance that now matters most: the Key Passion Index — KPIx.

KPIx:

  1. Engagement Quality (EQ)

  2. Fan Velocity (FV)

  3. Emotional Resonance (ER)

  4. Identification Adoption Rate (IDAR)

  5. Lifetime Devotion Value (LDV)

For the details and definitions, keep scrolling.
