Happy Spring Peaceniks! Ready for some un-panelling?

Recently, for our yearly Content Crossroads at SXSW, I moderated four conversations in SXSW’s venue at The Line. Below, you can stream all four full-length sessions.

  • Our first panel featured Julie Piskin of Roblox, Lydia Daly from Paramount, Nicolás Garcia Hemme from LALIGA, and Neil Waller from Whalar - who took on the topic of how Fandom is changing the very idea of audience.

  • We discussed new models for User Centric Era, with Ruth Berry from ITV, John Halley from Paramount, Justin Sampson from Barb, and Steve Bagdasarian from Comscore.

  • Rob Caruso from Google, Linette Zaulich from ZDF Studios, Adde Granberg of SVT Sweden, and Mike Sid from Ateliere each weighed in on how to improve the Media ecosystem to offer more joy and less friction.

  • I was lucky to facilitate a unique and fascinating conversation with Creator Bridget Banton, Meghan Bartley from GLAAD, and Creator Sarah Yourgrau about what The Media needs to do - now that DEI appears to be dead - to offer actual opportunity to new voices and new thinking.

Above, I make a distinction between conversations and panels. To be blunt, I am tired of panels - specifically conference panels that say nothing. The conversations at The Line were the opposite - our speakers brought stories from their real lives and lived experiences to share as case studies for where our industry is going right and when it’s gone off the rails. We gave all the participants the luxury of - get this - time. We allowed everyone to delve into details, to pause for nuances, and to answer questions from attendees in real-time, instead of squished and rushed in the last five minutes.

Here are all four complete panels (running time: an hour-ish each), for free. Below that you’ll find the link to download all my slides from the session intros.
