I am not here to slap you like Chris Rock with an Oscars post-mortem. Today’s post is a motion picture business case study, using the ten Oscar nominees for Best Picture, with the goal of ascertaining a long-term business model for a business in search of a model: Movie Distribution.
Comparing any ten movies is a hard task. But, comparing the box office totals for these very different films, which vary not just in genre and budget size, but also represent a huge range of release strategies, is near impossible. Which is precisely why I chose to do it.
