Bravo, Evan! We crossed paths when you bought a pilot from me and an old partner at IFC. If this fight is lost, nothing else in media matters. Must give a shout out to my wife’s org The News Literacy Project who are on the front lines of the battle.
Great points. All of them. The fight for information is central to the fight for democracy. You nailed why the First Amendment is FIRST - it’s a bulwark against authoritarianism.
A well-informed citizenry is the foundation of a democratic society. “A popular [representative] Government, without popular [shared] information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps, both." - James Madison
With the public tide turning, should be relatively easy to galvanise the mass movement and address the graft, corruption and declines. However, history suggests otherwise, especially if there is limited upside and potentially dire consequences (as the article illustrates) for venturing into the swamps.
But respect to Evan and those that have the cojones to try.
