Happy Friday War & Peaceniks. What’s appening?
NEW EPISODE 👆 OF MY SERIES HOW TO CURE YOUR PAIN IN THE APPS!
The video pathway from publisher to screen is full of twists and turns. For most players in the app universe, successful apps are most often made with key collaborators and valuable partners, who make the journey possible and keep it running smoothly.
On the publisher side, the challenge is maintaining as much control over the end product - what your audiences see and feel - as you can, without needing to build so much overhead into your operation that your operation becomes unsustainable. When do you build what you need and keep it in house and when do you buy it - outsourcing to reliable affiliates who constantly invest in and improve their tech infrastructure so you don’t have to?
On the vendor side, the challenge is often focus. Do you try to provide everything? Or do you focus on a core competency and form a coalition of the thrilling to provide a full stack? How do you stay ahead of the innovation curve and provide true end-to-end solutions, while also keeping your enterprise sustainable and profitable?
For everyone in the video app business - big and small - there’s a constant quest to find the right partners, at the right time, in the right specialties, with the right solutions, and the compounded challenge of managing the matrix without things - and users - falling through the cracks.
This week on my series How To Cure Your Pain In The Apps, I'm talking with Dave Otten, Founder and CEO of JWP (JW Player). JWP is one of the foundational companies in the creation of the digital video ecosystem, and Dave has been at the forefront of video innovation for longer than most in the business.
JWP powers video delivery for some of the biggest publishers in entertainment. Dave and I discussed the publisher journey, how to put platform creative into the hands of the client without breaking the apps, and what it takes to be the right partner for video delivery right now. Dave talks about the importance of great collaboration, the keys to managing major transformation, and the power of always being nimble in the app universe.
Serious thanks to Applicaster for having the vision to make this series possible. Meeting and chatting with these big app brains has been incredibly enlightening and tons of fun. I hope you enjoy! Get the whole series here.
